I have been one of the elected Councillors for the Redhill West Ward since 2000, since when I have worked hard to represent the residents of the ward.
Since being on the Council I have served on a number of committees, including the Board of the Harlequin, and most recently the Council’s Executive, where I have overseen the Council’s environmental services. This has included introducing the new Garden Waste recycling service, developing plans for extending the kerbside recycling facilities, making cost savings of over £1m per year and setting the Council’s target to reduce its energy use by 30% over the next 5 years.
Within the ward I have worked with Cllrs Natalie Bramhall and David Pay to fight off many of the unacceptable development proposals which have been submitted, many of which would have crammed more housing into small spaces.
We have also worked with Surrey County Council to get more of our roads resurfaced, such as Daneshill, Carlton Road, Coniston Way and Green Lane.
Professionally I am a qualified actuary, working first for Watson Wyatt in Reigate for nearly 10 years, and most recently working for Just Retirement, a Reigate based insurance company and another of the local area's major employers.
Beyond the Council, Julian enjoys keeping fit, reading, and learning to play better golf. He also serves as a trustee of a local charity and a board member of a local affordable housing provider.
