Simon Parnall has lived in Kingswood for fourteen years, and has served as Borough Councillor since being elected in 2012. He is married to Judy and they have a twelve year-old son, Matthew.
In the four years since being elected, Simon has worked hard and diligently with all three of the ward’s communities - Burgh Heath, Kingswood and Lower Kingswood - on a broad range of issues, but especially on all matters relating to planning, development and enforcement, and he has served throughout that time on the Council’s Planning Committee.
Simon’s concern for our community led him to join and latterly to lead the Kingswood Residents Association as chairman, before he was elected as Councillor. His family are active members of St. Mary’s Church in Burgh Heath, where Simon plays the organ and piano, leads worship, runs community facing events and leads a men’s group.
Simon’s professional life has been in Broadcast Engineering Research, initially at the BBC where he was based at Kingswood Warren. He has had responsibility for leading worldwide technical standards and developments such as subtitling for the deaf, the Radio Data System (which retunes your car radio automatically as you drive around), and the Personal Video Recorder (Sky+ for example). He also serves as a non-executive director of Premier Christian Radio.
Simon loves hill walking and photography, and identifies Yosemite in California as his favourite place on Earth!
